Mary-Anne restores and conserves textile items. Day to day this might mean investigating what fabrics are composed of and applying her Chemistry knowledge to discover if it is made of protein or plant-based fibres.

She also predicts what might happen to a specific textile in the future and makes plans to protect them. As a textile conservator, Mary-Anne even repairs ancient teddy bears and restores antique dresses to their former glory.

This resource is best suited to Year  4, 6, 8, 9 and 10 Chemistry students who are looking for a different, practical application of their scientific understanding. It is particularly well suited to those learning about material properties.
