A journey into the weird, wonderful and truly astonishing lives of the small yet mighty creatures who keep the world turning – beetles. They have been successful for millions of years, yet they’re in serious trouble; what does the future hold for these incredibly important animals, and for us if they disappear?
Lesson Inspiration
This film looks at the huge variety of beetle species, their function and the adaptations they each have that make them well suited to their role within the ecosystem. It demonstrates the different features of beetles and how they use them to survive. The film also shows how beetles have changed over large timescales (through evolution) and small timescales as they change from a grub to an adult.
Useful when:
Learning about the features of living things, the uses of these features and the lifecycles of beetles. This resource is useful to compare the difference between species, and the important role that they all play in their ecosystem. It could be used when teaching about the important role different species play in their ecosystem or when learning about the specific adaptations species have that make them well suited to their environment and their role within it.
